The research will be focused on the development of functional nanostructures combining semiconductor and carbon quantum dots immobilized onto solid supports for point-of-care osteoporosis monitoring. CdTe and carbon quantum dots, prepared by microwave-assisted hydrothermal synthesis, will be attached to different solid materials, such as nanoporous surfaces, polydopamine films, sol-gels and polymeric supports.  Functionalization of nanocrystals surface will allow specific binding abilities towards the target molecules. This binding/interacting process will produce a target-modulated change of the quantum dots luminescence.
